Nonso Amadi's Tonight and the challenge ahead

othing is impossible but not every producer is blessed with the talent to produce music as well as sing a good one, but the story has been different for the likes of Cobhams Asuquo, Maleek Berry, and now Nonso Amadi.

Nonso Amadi can be described as an artiste with raw talent yet untapped. He is an exceptional producer, singer, songwriter with a pictorial, serenading touch to his songs.

With his debut single ALONE which tells the story of one-sided love to LONG WAY HOME where the love became mutual and currently his latest single TONIGHT which has gotten unexpected massive airplay.

Nonso started his music career by exploring different genres of music, and his love for good sound led to his always trying to impress a friend of his during his university days in Covenant University.

According to him “I took music up seriously as a shared interest with a close friend of mine in the university. I used to make beats mainly to impress him because he is someone I admire production-wise”

The song started in a dramatic form and tells us a story of a girl who has been in a relationship with a guy with so many flaws and lack of commitment to their relationship but she stuck around waiting for him to change but obviously the long awaited change never came and now she has had enough and decided a break-up is the best option.

The song takes us to another angle of the story where it becomes obvious the guy is aware he has wronged his girl on several occasions and doesn’t want her to replay the number of times because they are numerous and he feels ashamed.

The girl in question definitely loves this guy as his convinced of this due to her soft spot for him which never allows her to totally forget him. She keeps remembering him and like every guy, they always want to know how their woman feels about them. He pushes a little further by asking her to tell him her she really felt about him notwithstanding the huddle in their relationship and this time she is permitted to mention as many times as possible how she feels about him unlike when he wronged her and he tells her not to mention those times.

This part of the song shows this is not the first time they have had a break up and each time he is affected as an essential part of him keeps leaving and he can’t live without her (the one he loves). He goes further to compare her to an electric bulb. Now this comparison can make several meanings depending on how you want to; but mine comes in two ways: one, the guy sees her as an electric bulb which lightens his dark life and makes everything look clear and perfect. And just like every human, when something we cherish is taken away from us, we feel the impact and might choose to revolt. secondly, comparing her to an electric bulb goes to tell us how beautiful he sees her, and just like a powered electric bulb, her beauty cannot be hidden and everyone sees this.

Night calls are part of every relationship with our youths. This is when lovers get the chance to talk about their day, gossip, gist, among other side talks. Apparently, the usual long night call is not happening tonight as his girl has left. Now his living the effect of a heartbreak like a young man with money to squander away and not thinking about the future rather his living the fast life and trying to forget her, even with all his heartbreak, he wishes her long life even without him.

The unforgettable chorus did justice to the whole song with it mere one line lyrics. The chorus was pleading and also promising all in its simplicity. Asking for something other than what we got would have killed the whole story

This verse of the song goes ahead to show the lovebirds are still not back and the guy goes ahead to tell her how his getting so much love from other ladies, although she should not think his boasting about it as his not interested in anyone of them but her, and he will be soooo pleased to get a call from her.

Relationships are all about compromising and at this point he has come to realise that and wishes to know the things she wants such as changing for her as his ready to support her by wanting same things for both of them. But he understands if she still wants to go after all his willingness to change for her because his still not fit to be her number one man because she deserves someone better. He goes ahead to tell her that he doesn’t mind being her second man If she will have him. This goes to show how much he is willing to go through to have her back in his life.

THE CRITICS believe this is an amazing piece, totally different from what we are used to from most of our Nigerian artistes. But the question is, how long can he maintain his style of music? Artists, who tried this genre of music in Nigeria, have always ended up doing dancehall music as that is what is widely accepted.
